Message from Vice Chancellor
I welcome you to the portal of higher education through Distance
Education Programmes of Kuvempu
University. Indeed it is a pleasure to invite you to be a member of
our University. You will agree with me that Education in the 21st
Century is a key factor in determining the nation's progress and its
march towards a global leadership. Therefore, as a viable
alternative to growing number of education seekers, we have
strengthened our Distance Learning Programmes. It is hoped that
these programmes will be a boon for those who are deprived of the
benefits of conventional education. The programmes are designed to
be learner friendly and cost effective. It is our endeavour to take
education to the doorsteps of the needy.
Kuvempu University is a State University established by the
Karnataka State in 1987. It is an affiliating University to promote
and facilitate studies and research in various branches of higher
education. It has jurisdiction over two revenue districts of
Karnataka State and has in its ambit 34 Postgraduate Departments,
three Constituent Colleges, one Post-graduate Centre and 81
affiliated colleges offering graduate and postgraduate-level courses
in various disciplines catering to the educational needs of more
than 35,000 students.
Kuvempu University is one of the very few universities in India with
a totally rural and green profile. In fact, it is located in one of
the hotspots of biodiversity, literally in the lap of the Sahyadri
mountain ranges. The main University campus is adjacent to Bhadra
Wild-Life Sanctuary which has been declared as a tiger reserve. The
Bhadra Reservoir is adjacent to the campus which provides the
much-needed water to the campus. The Kudremukha National Park and
Mookambika Wild-life Sanctuaries are so near that the University has
a distinct forest and rural profile. The location is indeed serene,
covering 330 acres of forest land, almost totally uncontaminated by
any kind of pollution.
Kuvempu University introduced Distance Education Programme at the PG
level from the academic year 2002-03. To-day, the Directorate of
Distance Education is catering to more than fifty thousand students
through more than 64 courses at the U.G. and P.G. levels. We are the
first to provide P.G. Science courses from 2003-04 in 7 different
subjects. It is also offering a number of need based P.G. Diploma
courses and Under graduate courses such as B.A., B.Com., B.Sc.,
B.B.M.
It has also introduced L.L.M., B.L.I.Sc., M.L.I.Sc., MBA, M.A
Education and M.Sc. Applied Chemistry courses, along with some of
the entirely new specialized courses at the UG, PG and Diploma
levels, such as B.Sc. and M.Sc. (IT), Fashion Technology and
Interior Designs, Mental Health and Counselling.
We have courses which are in demand globally such as Executive MBA,
MHRM, Health and Nutrition, MCA and BCA courses.
